چکیده
The present paper deals with an interesting problem, unresolved for more than 70 years, concerning class of diffusion-controlled periodic chemical reactions, where macroscopically observed diffusion action attains, with appreciable accuracy, the value of Planck’s quantum _. Starting from the classical Einstein–von Smoluchowski theory of Brownian movement and making use of a significant fact that classical and quantum Brownian processes are essentially indistinguishable in configuration space, a simple criterion for the accessibility of Fürth’s quantum diffusion limit has been formulated. The application of this criterion to experimental data has proved that the quantum nature of a stochastic process controlling these periodic reactions is very likely. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. Manifestation of Arnol'd diffusion in quantum systems.
We study an analog of the classical Arnol'd diffusion in a quantum system of two coupled nonlinear oscillators one of which is governed by an external periodic force with two frequencies. In a classical model this very weak diffusion happens in a narrow stochastic layer along the coupling resonance and leads to an increase of the total energy of the system. We show that quantum dynamics of wave...
متن کاملQuantum diffusion in biased washboard potentials: strong friction limit.
Diffusive transport properties of a quantum Brownian particle moving in a tilted spatially periodic potential and strongly interacting with a thermostat are explored. Apart from the average stationary velocity, we foremost investigate the diffusive behavior by evaluating the effective diffusion coefficient together with the corresponding Peclet number. Corrections due to quantum effects, such a...
متن کاملAtoms in double-δ-kicked periodic potentials: chaos with long-range correlations
We report an experimental and theoretical study of the dynamics of cold atoms subjected to closely-spaced pairs of pulses in an optical lattice. The experiments show the interplay between fully coherent quantum dynamics and a novel momentum-diffusion regime: for all previously-studied δkicked systems, chaotic classical dynamics shows diffusion with short-time (2 or 3-kick) correlations; here, c...
متن کاملHomogenization of a reaction-diffusion system modeling sulfate corrosion in locally-periodic perforated domains
We discuss a reaction–diffusion system modeling concrete corrosion in sewer pipes. The system is coupled, semi-linear, and partially dissipative. It is defined on a locally-periodic perforated domain with nonlinear Robin-type boundary conditions at water-air and solid-water interfaces. We apply asymptotic homogenization techniques to obtain upscaled reaction–diffusion models together with expli...
متن کاملUniversal spectral properties of spatially periodic quantum systems with chaotic classical dynamics
We consider a quasi one-dimensional chain of N chaotic scattering elements with periodic boundary conditions. The classical dynamics of this system is dominated by diffusion. The quantum theory, on the other hand, depends crucially on whether the chain is disordered or invariant under lattice translations. In the disordered case, the spectrum is dominated by Anderson local-ization whereas in th...
